Chelsea vs Newcastle

Our focus today will be on the corner market.

Chelsea have been a good corner winning team all season and with an emphasis on increased possession since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel this has only increased. Chelsea's last 3 matches have seen them win 7, 8 and 7 corners.

Newcastle on the other hand have been a mixed bag but a change of approach does seem to have commenced a few games ago where they won 9 corners against Leeds. They then won 12 and 9 in their next two games before wining 0 against Southampton in their last game.

They did though take an early lead in this game and i believe that is the reason for the anomaly.

I would expect Chelsea to have the majority of possession, Newcastle have seen between 25-40% and i would expect that to be the lower end today, but Newcastle can still win a few corner kicks themselves. The majority i would expect to be won by Chelsea with Alonso and Hudson-Odoi at wing back winning the majority of them as well as Mount and Werner playing as part of the front three.

Timo Werner is expected to return after missing the FA Cup game in midweek with a dead leg, but Thiago Silva remains out, as does Kai Havertz.

Newcastle

Callum Wilson, Fabian Schar and Javier Manquillo are all out for several weeks. Ciaran Clark is available, while Jamaal Lascelles will be assessed before kick-off.
